The Police Sector Council (PSC) was created to work with the Canadian police community to review the Human Resource challenges facing the industry sector and to develop solutions to meet current and future HR needs.
The Police Sector Council is funded by Human Resource and Social Development Canada (HRSDC) and supported by the broader police community in Canada who provide oversight and direction to the Council through a Board of Directors and advisory Committees.
The Council was formed after a lengthy review of HR issues affecting policing in the late 1990's that resulted in the publication of the following report:
The findings and recommendations flowing from the report were, among other factors, a driver for the creation of the Police Sector Council.
Sector councils were created in Canada to deal with work force and labour market problems that were plaguing private industry. There are now over 30 such sector councils in Canada.
The Police Sector Council (PSC) is the first council to focus on the public sector.
The PSC's Mandate is stated as:
Connecting forces - securing futures: To enable Canadian policing organizations, partners and stakeholders to implement innovative, practical solutions to human resource planning and management challenges. (Source: Police Sector Council web site)
