The report provides the most current information on police resources in Canada. Police Personnel data is based on police officer strength as of May 15, 2006.

2006 Statistical Highlights
- There was over 62,400 police officers in Canada in 2006, an increase of 1,400 over the previous year
- Despite recent increases, police strength has remained relatively stable over the past 30 years
- In 2005, expenditures on policing totaled $9.3 billion, a 4% increase over 2004 after adjusting for inflation, and was the ninth consecutive constant dollar increase in policing costs
- Ontario and Quebec reported the highest per capita costs for policing ($252 and $241, respectively), while the lowest were found in Prince Edward Island ($140) and Newfoundland and Labrador ($151)
- The number of female officers continued to increase in 2006 (up 6%) while the number of male officers increased by 2%
- Female officers now account for approximately 18% of police officers in Canada, compared to 10% a decade ago
- BC leads the way with 21.4% female police officers in 2006
