The following information was published in two recent Canadian polls commissioned by Sympatico/MSN and the Globe and Mail and CTV respectively.
Policing is the third most desirable career in Canada:
According to a recent* Ipsos-Reid poll a policing career is the third most desirable profession for Canadians, after doctors and teachers.
Policing was the top choice of 7% of survey respondents and was tied for third place with nurses and firefighters.
The most trusted professions for Canadians:
The police, tied with teachers for sixth place, was identified as one of the most trusted professions for Canadians. Firefighters, nurses, pharmacists, airline pilots and doctors, in that order, topped the list.

Terrorism and Crime/Violence behind the Environment and Healthcare as important issues facing Canada today:
A year ago environmental issues were just on the radar screen of Canadians, today, they are rated as the number one issue facing the country. A recent poll conducted by the Strategic Counsel and commissioned by the Globe and Mail and CTV found that environmental issues leaped to 26% from 4% of respondents within a twelve month period as the most important issue facing Canada today.
In the same period, concern about terrorism jumped to 6% of respondents from 1% a year ago, while crime/violence dropped to 3% from 10%.
Healthcare is the second most important issue identified in the poll, that was released January 26, 2007.
While the much of the world is at war and struggling with the issue of terrorism in an unprecedented way, environmental issues are of significantly greater concern to Canadians.
This could very well be the result that terrorism, in spite of recent Canadian arrests, is still at arms length from the average Canadian, while the environment embraces us all regardless of socioeconomic status or political alliance.
