First Nations policing in Canada falls primarily under the responsibility of the Federal Government whom, in June1991, introduced the First Nations Policing Policy (FNPP).
The policy allows for the establishment of First Nation administered policing services. Policing services are negotiated through tripartite agreements between the federal government, provincial or territorial governments and First Nations. As a result First Nation communities are policed by either a a self administered police service, or under agreement by the provincial, territorial or other existing police service.
Information on existing First Nations administered police services can be located in the province or territory where they are located by clicking on the appropriate provincial or territorial flag above.
The following links will provide significant additional information on First Nations policing and related services.
